How to Evolve Units in Anime Crusaders
Stones and kill quests turn a usable pull into a board-defining form. Spend them on keepers only.
Evolution is the jump from “this unit clears early Story” to “this unit stays on the tier list.” You do it in the Evolve Area or the unit menu, depending on your client build. The ingredients are almost always elemental stones from Challenge stages, a kill or clear count on that unit, and sometimes an event item from a raid, portal, or Boss Rush.
If you just pulled a unit, do not evolve it the same minute. Confirm it is a keeper on best DPS or best support. Stones are slower to replace than Gems.
What evolution actually changes
Evolved names in this game are long on purpose: Goko (Perfected Ultimate), Ayzen (Perfect), Ichi (Masked Vizard), Sun God vs Dragon. The form usually adds range, a new targeting flag (air, hybrid), an extra summon, or a support aura. Some forms change placement rules. Read the new card before you assume the old Hill unit still wants the same pad.
A few lines have more than one evo. Ayzen (Perfect) and Ayzen (Fusion) are not the same spend. Pick the form that matches your board, then stop. Double-evolving a vanity path while your farm unit is still base form is how accounts stall.
Where the materials drop
- Elemental stones: rotating Challenge stages and some Story elites.
- Kill counts: play the unit. Do not bench it for a week and wonder why the bar is empty.
- Raid or portal items: locked to that week’s raid. Check events before you burn stamina on the wrong portal.
- Event banners: some evos need a currency that only exists during a collab week.
Farm stones on the highest Challenge you can clear without leaking. A failed Challenge wastes more time than a slightly slower farm on an easier ticket.
Who is worth evolving first
Evolve the unit that is already carrying your Story clears. For many accounts that is a Goku-line, a Sun Woo-line, or a featured Mythic from the last banner. Farm units and cheap buffers can wait unless the evo is the entire reason the unit exists.
Secret evos with tiny drop rates (community guides still mention extreme tails such as a Made in Heaven style form) are not a first-month project. Finish how to play and a stable team first.
After the evolve
Reroll traits on the new form, not the old one, if the evo consumes or replaces the base card. Apply Stat Cubes after the trait is acceptable. Then take the unit into the mode that dropped its stones so you learn the new range the hard way.
If the evo disappointed you, do not immediately start another evo on a second unit out of tilt. Bank stones. Read the next changelog. 32x has added entire evo lines in a single numbered update; yesterday’s “dead” base form sometimes gets a second path.
Cross-link your materials plan with farm Gems so you are not starving banners while you chase stones, and with placement so the new form actually fits a tile you own.
Preview before you click
Open the evolve preview and read targeting. A form that loses air coverage is a downgrade on flyer worlds even if the model looks louder. A form that gains Hybrid can free a Hill tile for someone else. Write the change on team slots the same night.
If the preview asks for an item you only get from a raid you cannot clear, stop. Farm the raid board first or wait for a restock. Spending a week of stones on a path you cannot finish is how boxes fill with almost-evos.
Duplicates of a keeper can wait in the box as trade bait. Do not evolve the duplicate “for fun” unless the material is infinite. It never is.
After a numbered update, reread the preview. 32x has added second paths. The stone you were saving might now belong to a better tag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where do I evolve a unit?
Open the Evolve Area from the lobby Areas button or the unit inspect screen. The button only lights up when stones and kill counts are ready.
Can I revert an evolution?
Treat evos as permanent. Do not spend a rare event item on a unit you are still testing.
Should I evolve every Legendary?
No. Evolve keepers. Sell or bench the rest and keep stones for the next featured Mythic.
